30 miles later, the flexplate on my 98 TA with the TH400/GV appears to be
broken again :(

The first stock flexplate broken before 2 miles were put on the car while
pulling it off of a bud (Cliff's) trailer at Mufflex. Another stock
flexplate is broken now after about 30 miles. If it's not the flexplate that
is broken, then something else is making the same ticking noise - I'll have
to jack it up tomorrow and confirm but 99% sure it's broken.

SO my question is, why do I keep breaking these things?? I haven't even got
on the throttle much yet, in fact, I haven't even shifted it over 5K yet.
The gear vendor works well so I'm happy there but SOMETHING must be causing
the thing to break right? Could there be something in the trans that is bent
or broken or is it really just the mass of the 400/GV/12 bolt is too much
for the stocker?

I WILL NOT deal with Reactor to have them make me one as I would rather
change the thing daily than give them money.

The issue with the LS1 flexplate appears to be that there is some offset on
the flexplate so that the teeth match the starter and bolts to the motor
(ie. the flexplate is not flat) Would there be someway to put some kind of
spacer with the right offset between the motor and the flexplate and use
flat B&M flexplate? Could there be a problem with the converter? Trans,
input shaft? I just can't believe that I am the only one with a 400 in an
LS1 and have broken 2 of these things in less than 40 miles total. And I
can't blame the GV as the GV wasn't powered the first time.

One notable thing is that the 400 with the hammer shifter shifts REALLY
smooth, in fact, smoother than the 4l60e did. VERY nice. The GV shifts a
little harder than the 400 and more like my 4l60e with the shift kit did.

Any ideas on who/what I could do to either get a flexplate that won't break
or confirm/reject my suspicion that something in the trans is breaking the
flexpalte?

thanks for any help
