FEMA destroys another neighborhood!
It's not a hurricane that is going to take the last remaining breath from
tax payers and home owners in Keansburg, Union Beach, Middletown and other
coastal towns in our district, it is FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management
Agency that is "tasked with Disaster Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and
Recovery planning". What is the federal government up to now? If you haven't
heard, they have decided to rezone their flood maps to make the flood
zones a bit larger. They haven't offered us any help to eliminate the problem
of flooding, just decided to tell us that the flood zone is now larger, which
means that you and I who live in District 6, now in a flood zone, can look
forward to paying much higher insurance premiums for our houses. Of course,
at the same time, our federal tax money is being spent down in New Orleans to
rebuild levees and prevent flooding there, and Frank Pallone can't even get us
our own tax money back to prevent flooding here! I have a proposal, tell
the federal government that we don't need FEMA and coastal communities like
ours will gladly do what we need to do to protect our own property. I have
no problem chipping in a few $s of my tax money to prevent flooding in my local
area, but I have a serious problem with sending my tax money to DC and then
having a representative who watches my tax money get spent in another state,
while the agency spending the money in another state is changing maps so that
it costs me even more money in insurance. This of course not to mention the
usual example I'll give that some farmer out in Nebraska who is struggling to
put gas into his tractor doesn't want to give his tax money to either
community because coastal flooding isn't something he need be concerned with in the
first place.
But without FEMA who would respond to disasters?
Good question - are you looking forward to the same poor response they
provided in New Orleans after Katrina rolled through? Or Maybe the FEMA
response to a bridge collapse, haven't heard about that in a while have we?
FEMA is another federal agency that costs us a lot of money and does far
too little, far too late, and while our tax money is being wasted elsewhere
in the nation, we suffer locally because Pallone hasn't done anything for us,
ever, and he continues to do nothing for us while FEMA is set to cost us
more money. Please, let us work together to get Pallone out of DC and
allow me to have the opportunity to represent the people of this district, as
a person from this district, who cares about what happens in the district.
Like you, I'm not a millionaire, a raise in my insurance premium means
as much to me as it does to you - but to a millionaire politician like Frank,
what is a few more dollars spent on insurance? He doesn't care about us, about
"we the people" and he never did, and his track record shows, and I hope
you the voters and tax payers of NJ will join me and help get Frank out of
his cozy do-nothing office.
